Instagram giveaway comments in 2026: 4 limits to plan around
Giveaway entries bury buyer questions. Plan for 4 limits: 25 deletes at a time, one DM per comment within 7 days, a send cap and a 24-hour DM window.

A busy Instagram giveaway buries the comments that pay, a price question or a booking request, under hundreds of entries and tagged friends. To handle the flood, sort before you reply: send entrants the rules with a keyword, pull the questions out and answer those first. BetterSocials is our pick for local businesses and creators, at $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts. Meta Business Suite's free keyword template suits a small giveaway, and ManyChat suits multi-step flows and WhatsApp.
Why do questions get lost in a giveaway?
An Instagram giveaway asks people to comment, so entries arrive by the hundred. The few questions in the pile look like every other comment.
Four limits that Instagram and Meta set shape what you can do about it, each listed with the month its source was read.
- Instagram's app deletes up to 25 comments at a time (Instagram Help Center, October 2026).
- A business gets one private reply per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment (Meta developer docs, October 2026).
- Meta caps private replies at 750 calls an hour per account, and tools pace well below that (Meta's rate-limit docs, July 2026).
- Tools can reply to a DM only within 24 hours of the person's last message (Meta developer docs, October 2026).
Set a keyword before the post goes live, so every entrant gets the rules without you typing. Let the inbox sort the pile. Then answer the questions first, while the post is still hot.
Sort the giveaway and the buyers in it hear back the same day. Leave it unsorted and they wait under the entries until they stop waiting.
How do you separate entries from real questions?
Every new comment and DM gets a tag in BetterSocials as it arrives: Lead for questions about price, booking or availability, plus Spam, Support, Comment to DM and Archived. Lead detection is free and on by default. A new lead sends a push notification to the owner's phone, so a booking question doesn't wait behind the entries.
Instagram's own filters handle the spam side. Hide unwanted comments is on by default, and Hidden Words takes "a custom list of words, phrases, numbers, and emojis you want to hide," in Instagram's words. Filtered comments stay one tap away, because others "can choose to see it by tapping View hidden comments at the bottom of the comments section."
One detail matters for a giveaway. Instagram's Help Center says "hidden comments are still included in your total comment count," and the person who wrote one isn't told it was hidden. Decide in your giveaway rules whether a hidden comment counts as an entry, before you pick a winner.
Hidden Words decides what disappears. A tagging inbox like BetterSocials decides what reaches you first, and it files spam and leads in the same pass.
Should a giveaway keyword DM every entrant?
Instagram allows a business one private reply per comment: one DM, sent in answer to that comment. Meta's private replies documentation sets the terms: "Only one message can be sent to the Instagram user who commented. The message must be sent within 7 days from when the comment was created."
Where the DM lands depends on the entrant. Meta delivers it to the person's Inbox folder if they follow your professional account, and to their Request folder if they don't. Entrants who haven't followed you yet find the rules in message requests.
Then there's volume. Meta caps private replies on posts and reels at 750 calls an hour per Instagram professional account (Graph API rate-limit docs, checked July 2026). Tools pace lower, at roughly 200 automated DMs an hour, according to BetterSocials' write-up on why comment-to-DM messages never arrive.
At that pace, 3,000 keyword comments take 3,000 ÷ 200 = 15 hours to clear.
Fifteen hours sits well inside the 7-day window, so the queue delays the DM without killing it. The same write-up notes one automated DM per person per 24 hours, so someone who enters twice in a day gets one message.
BetterSocials, ManyChat and Meta Business Suite all send keyword DMs. In BetterSocials, a keyword in an Instagram comment posts a public reply and sends the DM with your link, with no flow builder and unlimited keywords. The wider rules are in Comment-to-DM rules in 2026: how Instagram and Facebook commenters reach your website.
How do you answer hundreds of comments without sounding like a bot?
BetterSocials writes each draft in the owner's voice, from a voice profile built from their past replies plus AI rules they write in plain sentences. The rules carry the facts: prices, hours, the booking link, or a line such as "never quote prices, send people to the booking link." The usual advice, a bank of saved replies rotated so they don't repeat, still reads like a bank once a few hundred people see it.
Settings, then AI voice, offers three settings for comments: Off, Draft for me and Reply in my voice. On Reply in my voice, BetterSocials answers everyday comments, such as compliments and feedback, under the comment 1 to 5 minutes after they land. Questions wait in Needs reply unless you switch on Answer questions too, which only turns on once you've written at least one AI rule.
When the rules don't cover what someone asked, the AI doesn't guess, and that comment waits in Needs reply for you. Comment drafts can go out one at a time or in a batch with Approve in bulk.
Budget the credits before the post goes live. Each AI reply or draft uses 1 AI credit, Creator includes 1,000 a month, and spam is skipped. On Draft for me, a giveaway with thousands of entries can use the month's credits fast. When they run out, the AI pauses. It never charges more. Credits meter AI writing only, so the keyword message you wrote yourself goes out without them.
What can you do in the Instagram app for free?
Instagram's app lets you clear a giveaway by hand. Tap Options in the top right, then Select multiple comments, and you can hide comments, delete them or block accounts in one pass. The Instagram Help Center page on managing comments adds that "you can delete up to 25 comments at a time."
Instagram also lets you limit comments to people you follow, your followers or both, or turn comments off. Turning comments off on a post hides every comment already on it, so record your entries before you close the giveaway that way.
Meta Business Suite adds a free keyword automation. It sends a template you write, or a Meta Business Agent reply, when a comment contains your keywords, takes up to 5 case-sensitive keywords per automation, is set up on desktop, and waits 15 minutes before sending unless you reply first (Meta's business help pages, read between July and October 2026). From its Inbox, Meta says "You can't send a message in response to comments posted more than 7 days ago."
For a small giveaway on one account, the free tools are enough. Meta's free automations cover Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and comments on your Facebook and Instagram posts. YouTube, LinkedIn and Threads aren't covered, so a giveaway that runs there too needs a second tool.
What does a giveaway cost on a per-contact tool?
ManyChat's prices here are what its own pricing page listed in October 2026. Pro is $39 a month with 2,500 active contacts, and each extra contact costs $0.05, billed monthly. A Pro account that reaches 4,000 people in a giveaway month pays the $39 plus $0.05 for every person past 2,500: $39 + 1,500 x $0.05 = $114. Extra contacts cost $0.10 on Essential and $0.025 on Business.
BetterSocials Creator comes with unlimited contacts and unlimited keyword automations.
A giveaway month costs the same as a quiet one.
Meta Business Suite is cheaper than both, at $0, if a template DM is all you need.
For one Instagram giveaway, here are the three side by side. Meta's limits come from its July 2026 docs.
| Tool | Price | Extra contacts | Keyword DM |
|---|---|---|---|
| BetterSocials Creator | $29 a month, 4 accounts | Included, unlimited | Yes, plus a public reply |
| ManyChat Pro | $39 a month, 2,500 contacts | $0.05 each, billed monthly | Yes, keyword or flow |
| Meta Business Suite | $0 | Free | Yes, template or Business Agent |
ManyChat works on Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and TikTok, which matters if your giveaway runs on WhatsApp too. For the wider price picture, see Instagram DM tools for a few thousand followers: 2026 prices.
How BetterSocials does this
BetterSocials is best for local businesses and creators whose comments and DMs bring in customers, across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube in one inbox. For a giveaway, the order is short: connect Instagram, set the keyword and its DM before the post goes live, then work Needs reply while the entries come in.
Leads arrive tagged, everyday comments can go out with Approve in bulk, and questions wait for you. AI replies also cover Instagram, Facebook and TikTok DMs, with their own Off, Draft for me and Reply in my voice settings. After five AI replies in one conversation in a day, the rest wait for you.
BetterSocials uses Instagram's official API, so the 7-day and 24-hour rules apply to it as they do to other tools. Past the 24-hour window, BetterSocials and most other tools can't send a DM, and you can still answer in the Instagram app.
Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts and one login. Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for six accounts. Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for twelve accounts and unlimited teammates, and every plan starts with a 7-day free trial, card required, on BetterSocials' pricing page.
FAQ
How do I answer hundreds of comments a day without sounding like a bot?
Answer the questions yourself and let rules you set handle the rest. A tool like BetterSocials drafts each reply from your past replies and your AI rules, so it reads like you. Everyday comments can go out in a batch with Approve in bulk, and questions wait in Needs reply until you approve them.
Can I DM everyone who enters an Instagram giveaway?
Yes, within Instagram's limits. A business gets one private reply per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment, and it lands in message requests when the person doesn't follow you. At roughly 200 DMs an hour, 3,000 entries take about 15 hours to clear.
How many Instagram comments can I delete at once?
25 at a time. Tap Options, then Select multiple comments, and you can hide, delete or block from there. A large giveaway takes several rounds.
Do hidden Instagram comments still count?
Yes. Instagram says hidden comments are still included in your total comment count, and the person who wrote one isn't told. Say in your giveaway rules whether a hidden comment counts as an entry.
Is Meta Business Suite's free comment-to-DM enough for a giveaway?
For a small one, often yes. It sends a template you write or a Meta Business Agent reply, takes up to 5 case-sensitive keywords per automation and can wait 15 minutes before sending. It answers the keyword hits, so the other questions mixed in with the entries are still yours to find.
What does a giveaway cost on ManyChat?
It depends on how many people it reaches. ManyChat Pro is $39 a month with 2,500 active contacts and $0.05 for each extra contact, billed monthly, so a giveaway that reaches 4,000 people comes to $114 that month. BetterSocials Creator stays at $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts.
